Motivation

First, I suppose an introduction is in order. If this sort of thing bores you, just skip down to the good stuff. My name is indeed Rob Laughter. It's not a pseudonym, it's not a clever joke, and yes, I know what it looks like. If you're interested, it's pronounced like "slaughter," sans the "S." I'm a semi-professional magician and head of the Winston-Salem lair. Right now, I'm working with ElusivePuzzle of the Virginia Beach lair on a DHV DVD on how to use magic in pickup.

I got into the community almost three years ago after searching P2P for "pickup lines" (coincidentally, it was right after searching for "hot asian sluts" or something to that effect). I found DYD which taught me nothing except that I was going to have to look elsewhere for seduction info...

I found mASF shortly thereafter and things picked up from there--no pun intended. I read Mystery Method, I read Speed Seduction, I read Juggler method, I read some KJ posts... I read it all, and I spent about six months doing it.

I realized rather quickly that READING was getting me nowhere. I decided the only way to get good would be to put this into practice. I was soon in the field experimenting with the things I was reading about with marginal success. Then it clicked.

I was at a fraternity party and I saw a tall, curvy brunette with legs up to her ass and a smile to die for. I think she was wearing her black-rimmed nerd glasses, too--hott. She was sitting on a couch with her not-so-cute friend, so I knew what I had to do: disarm the obstacle, demonstrate value, then go in for the kill. I opened, fluffed for a while, and then managed to isolate her. The obstacle must have liked me or something, because she pretty much handed her over to me.

I thought I was home free... Then came the AMOG. I'd met him once before, so he thought he could pull off the "heeeeey, buddy" approach. No dice. I smelled it coming from a mile away and used the AMOG tactics I'd read about on Maniac High's site to get rid of him.

After that, it was time to head out. My target was leaving--alone. This is where I went wrong. I went all pussified. I followed her out. I "walked" (read: followed) her back to her room. Then I was like, "um, cool. Okay, bye." That was it. Oh, wait. Then I facebook stalked her and found a picture of BB King. How quaint.

The moral of this story is two-fold. The first thing I want you to get out of this is that the only way you're going to improve your game is to GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD(s) and INTO THE FIELD. Reading is wonderful... as a SUPPLEMENT. When you run into a snag, you can turn to new material. When you master one method, you can turn to new material. BUT NOT UNTIL THEN! The second thing I want you to get out of this is our motto from the mASF chat room: SBAP. Stop. Being. A. Pussy.

Perhaps you've asked yourself if you were WORTHY of approaching her. "Why do I deserve her?" you may have asked. FLIP THE FRAME! Why does she deserve YOU! A big part of what "SBAP" covers consists of INNER GAME and ESCALATION.

You need to be in the PU mindset in order to succeed in the field. Moreover, you need to make it a LIFESTYLE. You needn't let pickup artistry dictate or define your life, but you need to be consciously aware of your place in social interactions.

One place where guys often fall short in pickup is to lose sight of their motivations in the grand scheme of things. For instance, they may get involved with PU because they want to get laid, but that's not the HEART of the issue. WHY do they want to get laid? Are there underlying emotional factors? Is it to make themselves look good in front of their friends or is it to better oneself?

To truely succeed in this game, it helps to constantly BE AWARE of your GOALS and MOTIVATIONS, and to be motivated by the right things. This brings us to...
